Reflecting On The Year - New Years Eve - Boracay

I don't blog often but love to share my thoughts and stories with the people I meet from around there world. Here's a piece from my journal to close out the year. Hope you enjoy.

This is it. Exactly how I envisioned closing off the New Year. As 2011 comes to a close. I sit on the beach in Boracay and dig my toes into the powdery white sand. All words fall short of what is being lived around me at the present moment. So many people, both old and young, from all walks of life. Some here to party, some for serenity. Many with their families, or just to have a romantic event with the one they love. Every star shining bright in the dark forming constellations throughout the midnight sky. The moonlight lights the coral blue water along with the boats in the sea making the most perfect paradise. There's about 70,000 people on this tiny island, dancing, frolicking along the beach side. Some swimming in their evening gowns enjoying the celebration of the new year. There's drum and bass, classic rock, horns and people loving, laughing, and screaming in the background preparing for 2012 the greatest year to come. As all this bliss is taking place, there's hours of firework displays from every corner of the island, the moon's crescent smiles down on the island and friends toast to the new year. What a monumental moment to enjoy and reflect on 2011 and what lies ahead. To take this moment and not waste it, but be thankful for it. I've chosen to write and remember.

I've been fortunate enough to live out all my goals and dreams year after year. This year has been a joyful year of transition. It was not easy to leave a life behind and pursue the unknown without expecting any return on its value. Little did I know the true value of the unknown is the time we have to pursue it. TIME a 4 letter word with such great meaning. Before this year I tend to overshadow time or think there was never enough. Later to realize time is all we have and the most valuable of all that we have. I used to acknowledge time, but never appreciated it. It was always a race to beat it.

The time spent this year has given me an open arm opportunity to allow so much in and meet so many unique people from different countries, cultures, walks of life, values, backgrounds, ect. These unique people and experiences allowed little footprints to be left within me. The difference between this year and most years prior is I've had the time to allow these footprints to sink in, settle and absorb. To be able to take all these little bits and pieces from the experiences, wisdom and knowledge that has been shared with me throughout the year has allowed me to transformed every one of those moments into a dream. I've learned a lot this year, whether the knowledge was conceived years prior, but this was the year I truly had the time to put it all into action.

To free the mind of everything and allow experience, wisdom and compassion to take over is a powerful feeling. It far exceeds the value of anything I once owned. 2011 has taught me to appreciate the simple things in life once again. This year has been a roller coaster of fun and experience but at the end of the day. The opportunity to have such great moments and not want or expect anything more or less and live in the present moment has been a great accomplishment with my mind.

Whether the future holds mountains, valleys, hills, or plains ahead. In this moment as I listen to the waves crash ashore and fireworks illuminate the sky. I look forward to the mystery the universe has to offer.
